The History of Jazz

Jazz emerged from the African American community in New Orleans, Louisiana, in the 1800s, drawing influence from genres like ragtime and blues. This style of music became increasingly popular throughout the United States during the 1920s, beginning the Jazz Age, which would endure into the 1930s.

Over the years, a variety of styles and subgenres have developed. Among these are Latin jazz, smooth jazz, and progressive jazz. From its beginnings in the American South to its continuing popularity worldwide, this is the history of jazz.
